2021 Cupra Formentor VZ5 SUV with inline-five engine revealed

The trailer of this whole new Cupra Formentor VZ5 was released earlier this month. The SUV has now made its successful debut and stands strong as the top-spec variant of the range with an inline-five-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. It is like a crown in the whole SUV line-up and represents the brand itself with the addition of an even more extreme engine.

There are a total of seven powertrain options, including performance PHEV that makes the Formentor a highly enthusiastic vehicle. The latest one is a five-pot mill sourced from Audi Sport models, such as the outgoing RS3 and TT RS. Mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch DSG, the engine delivers a power output of 390 hp and a torque of 480 Nm.

The revised bodywork offered to the body of Formentor VZ5, with a well-designed bumper, adds to its black grille that has a matte black frame. The bonnet is specific to the variant of VZ5 that has vents beneath the headlights to redirect air into the intercoolers. The rear end has received a VZ5 specific carbon-fiber rear diffuser that has marked out several wheel arches and copper-trimmed quad exhaust pipes.

The Formentor VZ5 chassis also has refinements over the VZ, which is based on Volkswagen's MQB platform. This includes a 10 mm lower ride height with an adaptive chassis control provided with 15 levels of damping adjustment. The damping adjustment is controlled by the Cupra drive mode selector on the steering wheel. The rolling stock consists of 20-inches Cupra machined alloy wheels and houses 18-inch Akebono brakes with waved discs.

The interior is offered with a darker shade and aluminum and copper accents. The front bucket seats are lower and offer a more comfortable seating position by maximizing comfort. The safety features include predictive adaptive cruise control, travel assist and side and exit assist, along with an emergency assist.

It is predicted that the SUV will go on sale in the fourth quarter of 2021.
