2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe hybrid unveiled

Jeep has added a new plug-in hybrid (PHEV), Wrangler, in its existing 4x4 lineup. The 2021 Wrangler is said to be the most “technologically advanced and eco-friendly” car to have been introduced in the market.

Jeep’s shift towards electrification is a move to preserve nature and is also said to be a move to face increasing competition from traditional and startup automakers.  Talking of its design elements, the hybrid variant of the Rubicon stands out with its traditional variant when compared to its blue toe hooks and badging around the body. Additionally, Jeep has also revamped the interiors of the hybrid Wrangler for the PHEV.

The 4xe will be available in three variants at the time of its arrival. Customers will be able to purchase the entry-level 4xe, mid-spec Sahara, and the fully-loaded Rubicon. In terms of offerings, the entry-level 4xe and mid-range Sahara will come with a two-speed transfer case besides the heavy-duty Dana 44 axles. On the other hand, the Rubicon will carry an upgraded Rock-Track 4x4 system, improved articulation, and axle lockers beside the front sway bar for improved suspension.

In terms of the design concept, the Wrangler Rubicon 4xe will be offering a 4.0:1 low-range ratio when compared to Sahara and base models. The performance in the upcoming Rubicon will be managed by coil springs.

Jeep Wrangler 4xe platform

A major attraction of the new hybrid Wrangler is its performance as it is not going to be normal anymore. This 4x4 is powered by a 17.3 kWh lithium-ion battery and electric motors that are paired to a 2.0L turbo-four engine. With this setup, the hybrid powertrain produces around 375 hp and a staggering 630 Nm of peak torque and likely to deliver 25 miles of all-electric range. The powertrain will be mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

While it seems obvious that the new Wrangler won’t make for the perfect off-roader, that isn’t the case. The powertrain of the vehicle hardly affects the off-roading ability of the car, according to the automaker. At the time of its arrival, the four-wheel drive will be limited to four-door Wranglers.

Lastly, the all-new 4xe is expected to make its arrival early next year.
