2021 Mitsubishi Outlander teased ahead of debut in February

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) has teased the highly anticipated next-generation Outlander, exactly one day after the images of the SUV were leaked online. The SUV is expected to debut initially in Canada, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. in February 2021 and later it will follow in other international markets.

The teaser image reveals that the vehicle now comes with a floating roof and wrap around windscreen. The rear of the vehicle features sleek L-shaped taillamps along with evident arrow-shaped light guides.

The latest Outlander has been developed under the “I-Fu-Do-Do” theme, which means majestic and authentic. The new SUV shows power and consistency from the inside out. The exterior architecture is refined and comes with a strong and impressive front end. It now flaunts a new generation Dynamic Shield design philosophy.

Division General Manager of Design (Head of Design) at MMC, Seiji Watanabe, said “The Outlander is an iconic SUV for the company, so when we developed the next-generation model, we took inspirations from our rich SUV heritage to realize a bold and confident styling with a solid stance that excites our customers. The all-new Outlander is the first model epitomizing the new generation of Mitsubishi Design and the frontrunner of our design strategy.”

The full transition from proportions to exterior styling previews the production path for upcoming Mitsubishi models. It is expected that the SUV will share the engine and platform with the recently revamped Nissan Rogue. If that happens, the Outlander will feature a  2.5 L engine, churning out 181 horsepower.

According to rumors, it will also be available in a PHEV model that will flaunt a driving range of around 43 miles. The current-generation PHEV variant of the Outlander returns an electric range of 22 miles. After the official debut in February 2021, the SUV is expected to hit the dealerships in the following spring.
