2021 Shanghai Auto Show: Toyota Crown Kluger makes its official debut

Toyota’s single oldest nameplate has been revived for the model year 2021. Following its appearance in the homologation documents from China, the automaker’s Crown Kluger has finally made its official debut at the 2021 Shanghai Auto Show.

Marking its original market debut in 1955, the Kluger had a long run, with a rich history of upgrades and improvements. Now in its fifteenth generation, the car highlights the best of technology and design by the automaker.

Talking of the latest upgrades around the exterior of the car, the brand resonates with the styling of two of its SUVs, the Crown badge and the Highlander. The car has a sharp sense of styling on the nose, running throughout its exterior. Overall, the car is a design of fine lines and an amalgamation of several complex technical specs. The SUV stands at 5,015mm in length, a width of 1,930mm, and a peak of 1,750mm, alongside a wheelbase of 2,850mm.

Under the hood the Crown Kluger is powered by a 2.5L hybrid powertrain that is accompanied by an E-Four all-wheel-drive, as per specifications provided by the automaker. Interestingly, the makers didn’t agree on providing additional information about the mill and its performance.

However, since the Crown Kluger is underpinned by Toyota’s TNGA-K platform, the car might have similarities in its mill as well.

Moving further, the interior of the Crown Kluger is also under wraps. While the Chinese variant has three rows in its offering, we can expect the interior to be comfortable and centered around the occupants inside.

While the US-specific Highlander comprises of safety features adapted from the Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, the Chinese spec of the car is also expected to carry similar Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD), Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA), and Road Sign Assist (RSA), among others.

Lastly, the car is expected to make its arrival, later in 2021.
