2021 Toyota GR Yaris receives a record-breaking response in Mexico

Toyota’s super aggressive little beast seems unstoppable in almost every country it is introduced to, sells off within 24 hours in Mexico. Moving in a step closer for sale in the global markets, the automaker opened their bookings for 300 units of the car, all of which were sold off within a day.

Toyota’s rally-inspired AWD hot hatch offering, the GR Yaris is underpinned by the diminutive Yaris. This hot hatch has been a powerful performer in almost every terrain, giving out a massive 257hp of power from the G16E-GTS 1.6 litre turbocharged mill.

The powerful mill of the car is said to be the largest, as well as the most powerful three-cylinder engine in production across the globe. Interestingly, the mill of GR Yaris is also the smallest and lightest 1.6L that is currently available. The D-4S port and direct injection functionality inside the car do complete justice to the power it churns out.

Talking of achieving such a wonderful response, Guillermo Diaz, the vice president of operations for Toyota Motor Sales of Mexico exclaimed: “Mexico joins Japan, Australia, Argentina, and Spain as some of the countries that will be able to enjoy that sense of excitement that the Japanese describe as Waku Doki because next summer it can have the exclusive GR Yaris on its streets.” Further, he also added: “It is a limited edition worthy of collectors and adrenaline lovers.”

Further, exploring a bit more around the driving modes of the car, the car runs over a 60:40 power proportion. It sends around 60% of drive to its front wheels, sending around 40% to the rear. On the other hand, the performance dynamics are changed in Sport mode. The car then operates has a 30:70 split, giving complete power to the RWD handling characteristics.

Lastly, with performance, looks, and power that’s unmacted in comparison to the other hatchbacks in its segment, we expect the Yaris to be a chartbuster, no matter the country it’s introduced in.
