2022 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer unveiled with a V8 mill
Jeep has been one of the most premium SUV makers in the world and is best known for its Cherokee and Wrangler. If that was not enough, the premium American automobile maker is looking to expand its product lineup, albeit implementing something like Land Rover.
Just the way Land Rover is popular for its Range Rover models marketed as a separate sub-brand, Jeep will be replicating that with the Wagoneer and the Grand Wagoneer, two models targeted at a more upmarket audience.
On the interior front, both the models are mostly alike coming to the wide center console, wing-shaped dashboard, and two-spoke steering wheel with bolstered bottom hand grip. Though, when you dig a little deeper, Nappa upholstery is there for Wagoneer while Palermo quilted leather upholstery is available for Grand Wagoneer Series II and III.
On the exterior, there are differences between the two models. The Grand Wagoneer gets more intricacies in the front fascia with chrome grilled dashes and paint-over-chrome laser-etched grille rings. The Wagoneer registers its nameplate on the bonnet. The Grand Wagoneer series II incorporates it on the top grille surface and series III features the lifted aluminum lettering on copper accents.
Elsewhere, the Grand Wagoneer is unique with its same color wheel arch moldings, downturned center air intake, premium LED lighting, sequential indicators, and many others. The Grand Wagoneer trims get 20-22 inches standard wheels whereas the Wagoneer gets only 20-inches axles.
The Grand Wagoneer exterior is inspired by the Wagoneer featuring the wood paneling. While the interior two-piece dashboard is done in Satin American Walnut trim and leather-wrapped starter button bezel.
There are numerous tech offerings available on both models of Jeep. The infotainment system based on Android Uconnect, is a standard feature. However, on the display end, the Wagoneer is equipped with a 10.25-inch instrument display and a 10.1-inch touchscreen. The Grand Wagoneer gets upgraded with 12.3 and 12 inches respectively. Passengers can also get entertained with the Amazon Fire TV, Amazon kids, and Alexa functions.
The Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer includes an optional rear-seat camera with zoom, that enables to monitor the passengers at the back, especially the small kids. Both come fitted with the typical McIntosh audio for high-quality speaker systems featuring 19 speakers and 950 watts amp for excellent sound delivery.
Safety inclusions in Wagoneer are a full suite of driving assistance mechanisms like lane center assist, autonomous emergency braking, rear cross-traffic, and blind-spot monitoring. For Grand Wagoneer, there are also various parking assist programs along with a 360-degree camera system.
Mechanically, the Wagoneer gets a mild hybrid system delivering 392 HP and 548 Nm of torque for diesel engines and an additional 176 Nm of accelerative torque for electrically driven motors. With a step up to the Grand Wagoneer, the purely petrol-powered engine delivers 471 hp and 617 Nm of torque. Both of them get an eight-speed transmission with cylinder deactivation.
The Wagoneers are built-in with versatile independent suspension, with double wishbones at the front and a multilink setup at the back. This vehicle is fitted with the standard coil springs with self-leveling rear suspension. The air suspension with semi-active dampers is optional in Wagoneer but is standard in the Grand Wagoneer.
The Jeep also offers ample spacing in the interiors of both the models that are best-in-class for the legroom and boot space.
