2022 Kia EV6 GT likely to replace the Stinger GT

Even with Stinger’s recent facelift in 2020, rumors have started to circulate that Kia’s stylish grand tourer might be scrapped soon. When Kia’s design chief Karim Habib was asked if there are any plans for a second-generation Stinger, he suggested that that won’t happen. He was quoted saying that while the spirit of the Stinger remained, the EV6 will continue with the genres of the GT. 

However, it might not be a direct replacement for the Stinger. Karim Habib highlighted the advantages of Stinger saying that it is a “transformational” car despite not living up to Kia’s sales expectations of the vehicle. The Stinger instead paved the way for future Kia models which will be a precision driving tool like the EV6. 

So, if rumors are to be believed, new production starts sometime during the end of next spring and so the current Stinger models will last till the end of next year or till early 2023. Currently, the available variants of the Stinger are - the V6 variant in Europe and a four-cylinder 2.5L engine in North America. The V6 variant came with a 3.3L twin-turbo engine with a power output of 368 hp while the North American one produces a power output of 300 hp. 

The Stinger first debuted in 2011 before it was produced commercially in 2017 with the GT concept. On the other hand, the EV6 came during the beginning of 2021 in a standard version while a better, more high-performing GT variant of the same arrived a few months later. The flagship EV6 model comes with dual motors with 577 hp and 740 Nm. it goes from 0 to 100 kmph in just 3.5 seconds and has a top speed of 260 kmph. 

The Stinger is available in the USA at $36,090 (SGD 49,135)for the base model, $43,690 (SGD 59,482) for the V6 GT1 model, and $51,290 (SGD 69,829) for the GT2 model. However, the EV6 GT will arrive in the US market next year and pricing details for the same are yet to be revealed.
