Alfa Romeo Tonale leaked, hybrid powertrain specs revealed

Leaked photographs by the Spider’s Web Autoblog, a Polish magazine, have revealed sneak peeks into the much-awaited Alfa Romeo Tonale. Delayed due to global chip shortage problems and performance improvement requests, the Tonale will be finally making its debut sometime during the first quarter of 2022. Let’s check out what this upcoming model has to offer.

According to the leak, the Tonale will gain a PHEV powertrain which is guaranteed to deliver top-notch performance. It will feature a 1.6L diesel engine with a power output of 97 kW or 130 hp. It might also be available in a turbo-charged, inline-4 petrol variant with a slightly more powerful output ranging between 97-119 kW or 130-160 hp. The petrol variant might also feature the MHEV technology for enhanced performance.

What’s even more exciting is that there will be a plug-in hybrid variant for the Tonale, but only available for the top model. It will feature an electric motor on the rear axle and will provide a powerful performance of 179 kW or 240 hp.

All the speculations regarding the new model’s engine specifications point towards its similarity with the Jeep Compass platform. However, their PHEV versions might be a little different.

The Tonale’s EV range is yet to be revealed but we do have high hopes from them. We hope it will receive a range of 80 km or 50 miles, higher than Jeep Compass’s 49 km or 30 miles range.

In terms of dimensions, the Alfa Romeo Tonale will be slightly smaller in dimension as compared to the Stelvio. The Stelvio measured around 4,687 mm in length, 1,903 mm in width, and 1,648 mm in height. On the other hand, the Tonale might be somewhere around 4,528 mm in length, 1,835 mm in width, and 1,604 mm in height. The wheelbase too will be slightly smaller than the Stelvio measuring 2,636 mm and 2,818 mm respectively.

All the information above is strictly based on the leaked photographs and we are awaiting official confirmation on them. Stay tuned for more updates.
