ASEAN NCAP declares the winners of Decade of Safer Vehicle Awards 2021

ASEAN NCAP recently celebrated their tenth anniversary and in tandem with their celebrations, revealed their Decade of Safer Vehicle Awards 2021. Honda emerged as the clear winner bagging as many as six awards. The automaker was closely followed by Toyota who received four awards. Let’s check out which categories the carmakers managed to top.

Honda Accord won the award for the Best Forward-facing Child Occupant Protection from 2017-2020 while the Honda Civic landed the Safety Technology Award for autonomous emergency braking and motorcycle detection. The Civic and City also won the awards for Excellent Award for Consistent Five-star and the Most Five-star Cars under the Adult Occupant Protection department respectively between the years 2012-2016. Honda also bagged the award for the Best Road Safety Partner.

Trailing close behind was Toyota who managed to bag four awards including the Most Five-star Cars Overall as well as between 2017-2020 protocol. Toyota Granvia or Majesty won the award for the Best Safety Assist in 2019 while the C-HR won the Best Adult Occupant Protection between 2017-2020 protocol. 

Apart from them, the Nissan Teana won two awards, including the Forward-facing Child Occupant Protection from 2017-2020 and the Best Adult Occupant Protection Award. Nissan also won the award for Most Five-star Cars from the 2012-2016 protocol.

Among other companies were Isuzu whose MU-X won the Best Safety Assist 2020, Hyundai whose Ioniq Hybrid won the Best Safety Assist 2018, and Perodua whose Myvi won the Best Safety Assist for the year 2017.

ASEAN NCAP gave notable mentions to JAMA or the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association and the Global NCAP. They were awarded the Excellent Award for organizations. Among individuals who received the Excellent Awards were Datuk Suret Singh, Chairman of MIROS or Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research, and Ahmed Ismail Haji Amin, Treasurer of MKJR.
