Citroen DS for 2021, re-imagined

Citroen DS for 2021, re-imagined

Just like the other top automobile companies who have their very own icon to represent them in the 20th century, South Korean designer Sang Won Lee has re-imagined 1955 Citroen DS.

The original Citroen DS was a concept when it first arrived in the mid-1950s. Back then, the car was one of the finest in the segment and was paired with the latest technology that gave appeal to its futuristic design.

After the final production version came out, the Citroen DS went ahead to be the most recognisable cars of the brand. The icon gave a tough competition to the French brand's 2CV. The car always carried an edge in terms of its design.

Besides its design, it also carried advanced technologies that included height-adjustable hydropneumatic suspension, swivelling headlights, and power steering. It was a huge sales topper as, by the time of its retirement, Citroen sold 1.5M units of the car on a global scale.

Talking about the re-imagined version by the talented Korean designer, the render certainly looks astonishing. The designer has just added an edge to the original design by Flaminio Bertoni.

As for the design of the car, Sang has been successful in keeping the original essence of the 1955 DSs exterior in this all-electric concept. The car is a true remark of what sports mated to luxury would look like in the current-gen DS with chrome plating, and tubular tail lights.

The other notable exterior features of the design give the view of a widened rear track and much lower ground clearance when compared to its predecessor. Another major highlight of the design is the Citroen DSs rear wheels that remain completely covered for improved aerodynamics.

About his latest creation Sang Won Lee said. “Not only [did the original DS> have cutting edge technology, but also beautiful streamlined design," he further added.“Between emotionless trending EVs, I believe there is a need to bring back this legend."

However, let’s not get our hopes high as Citroen's design director Alexandre Malval, back in 2015, in a news event said that “[Retro models are> not really our taste to be honest”.

Lastly, the car might stay as a render, as there were no official words from Citroen.
