Electric Hummer is likely to become a US military vehicle
A few months ago, General Motors made a grand announcement about the returning of iconic Hummer with an all-new battery-powered model. The upcoming truck is expected to be all power-packed, giving way to 1,000 hp without giving out any form of emission. It surely seems to have some military applications.
GM Defense President, David Albritton told to GM Authority that their upcoming offering may provide “a great base platform for an electric vehicle to be used in the military context". The electric Hummer truck will be offering a 643 km (400 miles) range and an impressive torque output of 1355 Nm.
A twist in the tale with the upcoming EV Hummer is that it’ll be announced as GMC's first EV rather than coming as an independent model of its brand. The vehicle is expected to come with a raw and powerful styling with the brand’s slotted grille, having Hummer lit in the background.
The 2021 EV Hummer’s technical specifications make it one of the most interesting offerings by the brand. It is likely to offer a total of three motors. The 800 V battery will be featuring a re-filling capacity at 350 kW. The electric truck can run from naught to 100 kmph in just three seconds.
The interior of the EV Hummer is expected to have high-tech features comprising a 12-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 15-inch infotainment screen.
Recently, the company also announced that its Defense division bagged a multi-million contract with the U.S. Army. As per the terms of the contract, the military’s Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV) will be sharing about 90 percent similarity in its mechanical offering with the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 truck.
