Ferrari brings its more powerful Portofino M for 2021
Ferrari has introduced the world to its most affordable model to date, the Portofino M, as a starter to its GT lineup. The M in Portofino stands for Modificata (Modification), which is a commonly used term in the history of the brand, presenting an evolution in performance.
A mid-life replacement of the previous generation Portofino, the F164 facelift was unveiled during a digital launch event. The car is an exceptional beauty with redesign elements that come paired with a more powerful, re-engineered engine, which gives out an improved performance.
While the car may not represent major changes in its design feature, the keen eyes can see more subtle changes. The exterior changes include the resculpted air vents that have been tweaked slightly in the front bumper of the car. The other modifications comprise a rear bumper that seems to be completely new with its redesigned diffuser.
The other interesting highlights around the exterior changes include its folding hardtop that can now adapt to new speeds. The hardtop can be raised or lowered in 15 seconds time at a given speed of up to 40 kmph.
Coming over to the major USP of the Portofino M, it has adapted to a more powerful drivetrain besides a plethora of comfort features and new-age technology. The car runs on a more fine-tuned 3.9L V8 mill that now makes an extra 20 hp of power in the Modificata. The engine gives out 612 horsepower and 760 Nm of peak torque at its ‘entry-level’.
Moreover, the Portofino is the first-ever convertible by the manufacturer to get an eight-speed gearbox with a 20% smaller clutch module that gives out a 35% higher torque delivery than its previous model.
Ferrari has also introduced five riding modes in the Portofino M's steering. The wheel-mounted manettino provides the riders with selector dials. The driver gets the options of Race, Comfort, Wet, Sport, and ESC-Off settings. All the suggested modes by Ferrari are supposed to add on to the stability and car's drive systems.
The last section where the Ferrari engineers worked on is the brake pedal. The automaker claims that the M's brake pedal comes with ‘less travel’, making it easier for the driver to modulate braking.
Moving inside, the car gets major parts of its interior from its predecessor. It represents a smartly designed cabin space with its 10.3-inch center touchscreen and the twin TFT displays. Additionally, it includes an optional heated and ventilated front seats.
The model will be available for sale in Europe in the second quarter of 2021.
