Ford keeps its focus on producing more Mustang Mach-E than Mustangs

Ford is already focusing hard on an electric future as it pushes for more battery-operated Mustang Mach-E’s than the combustion engine-powered Mustangs. As per reports from Bloomberg, the production of the Mustang Mach-E has surpassed the numbers at the company’s Mexico plant, when compared to the automaker’s iconic Mustang pony car.

While it is one of the most important technological milestones in the history of production for the automaker, it might not stay the same as the automaker has a shortage of proper resources. Further, Ford’s priorities might also have an impact on the production of the cars.

This year, the automaker has been able to build 27,816 units of the Mustang Mach-E so far, as compared to the 26,089 units for its iconic Mustang, which is now in its sixth generation. In terms of its sales, the Mach E is a really popular model in countries like Europe and also secured the place for the best-selling car in Norway in May. However, the gasoline variant of the Mustang is a top seller in the US, outselling the Mach E by a three is to one ratio.

Talking about the shift in priorities for production, CEO Jim Farley explained how the demand for “Mach-E has been much stronger than we expected, so we’ve totally run out of stock. Mach-E is going global as we speak, but in the US, the wait is months.”

He further stated that “We have purposely protected our launches – Bronco, Bronco Sport, Mach-E, F-150,” Farley said. “If we can switch a module over to one of those launch vehicles, we have. We’re very protective of the launches because they are so important for our business.”

Talking about the technical aspects of the pace in production, one of the major reasons why the Mach-E is produced at a higher rate can be due to the fact that the automaker is prioritizing resource allocation for its model line-up.
