Honda showcases its automated driving expertise at ITS World Congress
The automobile market has been witnessing unprecedented growth in the EV field. Automation is the new normal today and the largest brand names are taking in the opportunity to come up with their own automated driving expertise.
Amongst other avenues that help automakers highlight their technical expertise, Honda did something similar at the ITS World Congress 2021. The automaker took the time for highlighting the brand’s self-driving technology as part of the L3Pilot automated driving project.
Talking of the EU-driven initiative, the effort is a joint pursue of 12 countries in securing SAE Level 3 and 4 self-driving functions over the normal roads. Honda has been a contributor to the cause with three of its Honda AD research vehicles.
Talking of the vehicles, they’re based out on Honda’s Legend executive sedan. As per one of the active initiators of the cause, Dr. Robert Kastner, Large Project Leader of the L3Pilot Project at Honda R&D Europe said, "We view automated driving technology as a vital part of our advanced safety technologies".
One of the leading experts under Honda’s wing of researchers, Honda R&D Europe has diversified their automation approach under scenarios named ‘Traffic Jam Chauffeur’ and ‘Motorway Chauffeur’. Both the scenarios include 25,900 km of testing on German roads
"Following on from our years of research in this field, we are delighted to be an active part of this EU innovation initiative, and to support advanced research activity for automated driving that is aiming to further increase safety and further reduce accidents on European roads,” Kastner said.
Working towards the 2050 goals, Honda seeks to “attaining safety that saves precious lives”, “eliminating the burden on the global environment”, for its vehicles. With its L3Pilot automated driving, Honda aims to achieve zero traffic fatalities by its two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles.
