JLR to introduce nausea-free tech in their upcoming driverless cars

Jaguar Land Rover is reportedly working on a software to programme their autonomous vehicles to reduce motion sickness, as per reports by Autocar. The upcoming software has already been tested for 32,000 km of real-world as well as virtually simulated test mileage.

Jaguar Land Rover reported that motion sickness affects more than 70 per-cent of people around the world. Their software is said to adapt to the driving pattern of the autonomous vehicle to help decrease the fatigue experienced by the occupants.

The software is also said to be based on 15,000 miles of motion sickness data. It is expected to calculate the rate at which the motion sickness will be affecting the physiological signals via biometric sensors.

Interestingly, the vehicle manufacturer has also claimed that the technology will be laying input in each Jaguar and Land Rover vehicle. The software is expected to amend how to drive autonomously while maintaining the individual characteristics of each model.

Highlighting the brand’s expertise on the project, Dr Steve Iley, Jaguar Land Rover Chief Medical Officer, said: “Mobility is rapidly changing, and we will need to harness the power of self-driving vehicles to achieve our goal of zero accidents and zero congestion. Solving the problem of motion sickness in driverless cars is the key to unlocking the huge potential of this technology for passengers, who will be able to use the travelling time for reading, working or relaxing.”

As a dedicated part of Jaguar Land Rover’s ongoing Destination Zero program, the manufacturer is all set to explore a wider and safer initiative towards driving. The upcoming models will be offering more adaptive dynamics, eliminating low-frequency motion.

Lastly, the software will be altering ride settings every 10 milliseconds, ensuring high levels of comfort, while also maintaining the dynamic performance of the cars.
