Lamborghini hoping to continue internal combustion engines after 2030

According to sources, Lamborghini might not be letting go of the internal combustion engines anytime soon. And why not? The Italian carmaker has given its customers fantastic performance cars powered by these powerful engines, and it is still debating how it might all change if electric motors are introduced.

For now, Lamborghini is going ahead with its electric lineups. In 2021, it revealed "Cor Tauri," a $1.8 billion electrification strategy. CEO Stephen Winkelmann said they would announce their first fully electric vehicles by the decade's second half. However, in January 2022, he amended his statements and said that the electric Lamborghini would be debuting before 2030.

A month after this statement, Winklemann told the  German newspaper Welt am Sonntag that it hopes to keep the internal combustion engines. He elaborated that he hopes to keep these traditional engines beyond 2030 with the help of hybridization. After that, they might not continue using gasoline, but they are considering synthetic fuels.

Lamborghini would like to offer more choices to the customers - be it all-electric or hybrid. However, it is speculation since several countries like Europe and various US states plan to ban combustion powertrain vehicles by at least 2035. Germany might let a few cars that use synthetic fuels slide. But whether gasoline vehicles will be allowed is still a mystery.

For now, Lamborghini will be releasing four pure gas-powered cars, a couple of Urus models, and two Huracans. Both will be released by the end of 2022. After this, the brand will release the Aventador, a plug-in hybrid version with a new V-12 engine. This vehicle will appear by 2023, and the others in the lineup will receive full hybridization by 2024.

Well, Lamborghini might not be willing to completely let go of the internal combustion engines, provided they get the opportunity to produce them.
