Lotus might name its next SUV as Lambda
As per reports from Dutch publication Autoweek, Lotus might introduce the world to its first SUV soon. Expected to be called the ‘Lambda’, the upcoming vehicle will be based on the underpinnings of the Volvo XC40.
The Lambda is set to bring the dawn of a new era for the Geely owned enterprise in the competitive SUV segment. Expected to be first produced at the heart of Geely’s operations, Wuhan, the Lambda model runs on a multipurpose platform that will be further segregated into gasoline, hybrid, and 100% electric versions. With such wide options of powertrains, Lotus wants to offer something that suits the need of each market.
Previously, a coupe version of the Lynk & Co 01 was spied testing under heavy camouflage, back in November 2018. Rumours suggest that the car under heavy camouflage might not be the Lynk & Co 01 but the Lotus Lambda in action.
Further, an unnamed facility is said to begin the production of some 20,000 units of the Lambda after receiving permits from respective authorities. The production, however, is set to begin in the second half of this year and increase the units according to the demand of the car.
Talking about the name of this car, the Lotus Lambda seems to be a very musical name. Interestingly, the Lambda will share identical dimensions with the BMW X5. The upcoming SUV by Lotus will stand at 4.9 meters in length and ride on a wheelbase of 2,999 mm.
Considering the suggested dimensions of the car, one can surely expect it to be a very spacious affair that will come with roomy interiors. Moreover, looking at the space that it has to offer, Lambda might also carry a wide space to house a large battery pack.
Lastly, the vehicle might be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine among other powertrains.
