McLaren Artura hybrid supercar unveiled

McLaren finally takes the wrap off the Artura hybrid after so many testing and teaser campaigns. This is estimated to be the third hybrid of McLaren after the discontinuation of P1 and the speed tail. The Artura is also the brand’s first series-production hybrid supercar.

The Artura has been powered with the whole new 3.0 litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine and a plug-in hybrid electric motor. This combination delivers a massive power output of 680 PS and 720 Nm torque. The engine has been paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and a rear-wheel drivetrain.

This supercar can spike up the speed from complete pause to 100 kmph in just three seconds and the highest speed is limited to 330 kmph. The brand-new carbon-fibre structure has also been debuted by the McLaren Artura and that has contributed to its lightweight architecture. The new platform has received proper optimization for hybrid powertrains and the latest driver technologies.

The technology that doesn't go unnoticed is the underskin that includes a rear suspension layout which consists of a split lower wishbone offering great stability around the corners. Assistance in traction out of corners is also controlled electrically in this debut. The Artura weighs 1,395 kg which includes the combined weight of carbon-fibre monocoque and carbon-ceramic brakes.

Talking about its charging abilities, it can charge up to 80% within 2.5 hours with the help of a standard EVSE charging station. With this charge, the Artura can run on all-electric power with a 7.4kWh battery pack and can cover a range of almost 30 km. The batteries can also harness energy from the internal combustion engine along with four driving modes, including Electric, Comfort, Track, and Sport.

The Artura represents an evolution of the design philosophy of McLaren as it has an upfront accompanied with a long, low sleek nose that features the trademark hammerhead line. The interior and exterior are undoubtedly well equipped with all the standard features to match the brand image. The driver focus in this car is visible with the help of the digital instrument cluster that is clambered on the steering column.

The new Artura price starts at $225,000 (SGD 298,490).
