McLaren unveils the 720S Daniel Ricciardo Edition
The British automotive manufacturer McLaren has lifted the cover off its 720S Daniel Ricciardo Edition in Australia. The project is an ode to honor Daniel Ricciardo, the brand’s veteran racing driver’s first Formula1 Victory since 2018.
However, the production is limited to only three units, which is a direct nod to the driver’s racing number. The project is a unique collaboration between McLaren Melbourne and Sydney dealerships. All these cars will be exclusive to Australia.
George Biggs, the commercial director of McLaren, said, “Daniel Ricciardo’s relentless determination and pursuit of excellence are qualities that perfectly reflect the McLaren ethos.” He also stated, “Following McLaren's outstanding performance with a landmark one-two finish for the team at the Italian Grand Prix, it's the perfect time to reveal this limited series in celebration of the Aussie driver.”
Coming to the design, the roofline of the McLaren 720S Daniel Ricciardo Edition is sloppy. It features triangular headlights and a wide air vent. Moreover, there are some blue paint jobs here and there on the mirrors, bonnet, and back section. The whole body gets orange paint. The two-door car also features Australian flag stickers. Also, Daniel Ricciardo’s racing number ‘3’ is printed on the side. The car comes with twin exhaust tips and sleek tail lights at its rear.
McLaren 720S Daniel Ricciardo Edition’s cockpit is all about luxury features and a premium feel. The carmaker has used a black paint job with orange touches all over the interior. There is a flat-bottom steering wheel and a center console. There is a digital instrument console too fitted with modern connectivity features. A rear-view camera and multiple airbags are given to take care of the safety.
At its heart, the car is expected to get the same twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine, which the ongoing model uses. The engine is capable of pushing out a maximum power of 710 hp along with a peak torque of 770 Nm. It helps the car to achieve a triple-digit score in just 2.9 seconds.
While the manufacturer has not spoken on the pricing and availability, it is expected to hit the stores later this year. Lastly, given the number count, there is no chance of getting this car in Singapore showrooms, as the models are exclusively made for Australia.
