McMurtry Speirling to make appearance at the 2021 Goodwood FoS

Electric is the future they said, right they said! With EVs breaking world records, we have yet another offering that is setting records for its speed ahead of its debut. The world of EV offerings will be joined by McMurtry Speirling, a track-only, prototype racer-styled electric car that will be making its official debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed later this week.

McMurtry Speirling

Designed and engineered by British outfit McMurtry Automotive, the company was founded by David McMurtry in 2016. The Speirling, also referred to as a “British invented, designed and built ‘railway car’, which indicates the intention to enter into something other than sports prototype sports, the cars of which seem to have inspired its shape. After the public display of the Speirling in Goodwood this week, McMurtry says it will begin a program of record-breaking efforts to “show its true motorsport potential.”

Named the Spéirling (pronounced as ‘spearling’ - Irish for thunderstorm), the USP of the car revolves around its unusual ‘powered downforce’ electric fan and the underbody skirt that maintains a ground-hugging distance throughout. Allegedly, the vehicle is capable of churning up around 500 kg of downforce at a standstill.

Now, while we have no specifications around the offering, all we have is an image of the car that reveals the appealing design feature. The car includes a very short wheelbase, carrying wheels that are more than half the car’s overall height.

Moving ahead with the sports prototype-like design, the car presents us with a narrow glasshouse, suggesting that the EV is going to have a single-seat arrangement. Further, the car is accompanied by six LEDs on each side, making for the looks of the car’s frontal lighting, supported by a quartet of LEDs that serve as the tail lamps on the rear.

Ultimately, the objective of this EV brand is to engineer a car that would be able to compete in a race series.
