Meet Ferrari SP48 Unica, an F8 Tributo-based one-off supercar
KUALA LUMPUR: In order to create the SP48 Unica for a long-time client, Ferrari has considerably redesigned its F8 Tributo mid-engined supercar. It is based on the mechanics of the F8 Tributo, including its 710bhp twin-turbo V8 mounted in the middle. This is the second One-Off to use the V12 engine, following last year's BR20.

Who designed the Ferrari SP48 Unica?

Based on the Ferrari F8 Tributo, the very special version of the car is for an equally special customer who remains unnamed.“Every Ferrari is unique, but inevitably some are more unique than others. The Special Projects programme is designed to allow clients to collaborate with the design team, under the direction of Flavio Manzoni at Ferrari’s Centro Stile, to produce genuine one-of-a-kind models. Built on the F8 Tributo platform, and powered by the same twin-turbo V8, the new SP48 Unica is a wealth of bespoke design and aero modifications to deliver its unique sporty and dynamic look,” a press release by Ferrari read.
This car, which was created by the Ferrari Styling Centre, features an angular front end and a bold rear end with a wraparound light bar. The headlights have been redesigned, and the brake cooling vents have been relocated. Having its own distinctive style while still being recognisable as Ferrari's supercar gives the SP48 - which is the company's 48th special project car - its own distinct appearance while making it still recognizable as the car it's based on.
There's unprejudiced use of Alcantara upholstery and carbon fibre trim on the interior, more like the F8. The Italian automaker claims, however, to have created "the perfect combination of colour and trim to reflect the sleek, sporty and aggressive personality of the SP48 Unica."
It added, “The SP48 Unica achieves its goal of transforming an existing model to masterful effect, taking inspiration from and paying homage to the company’s core values of innovation and passion,” Ferrari added.
Ferrari designers used 3D prototyping extensively as they brought to life the one-off Berlinetta. The process allowed them to redesign bits like the front grille and engine air intakes digitally. While Maranello hasn’t given a price for the SP48, it is expected to carry a price tag that is significantly more than that of the now-discontinued Ferrari F8 Tributo.
