Mercedes-Benz pays homage to late fashion designer with its Project Maybach

Last year, Mercedes-Benz partnered up with fashion designer Virgil Abloh to devise the chunky model inspired by the iconic G-class, the Project Geländewagen. Now that Abloh is no longer in this world, the brand has unveiled its upcoming Project Maybach concept to pay tribute to the late fashion designer.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What is Mercedes-Benz Project Maybach concept?

Mercedes-Benz unveiled a concept that pay tribute to the late fashion designer Virgil Abloh, dubbed as Project Maybach. It is dedicatedly decked up for off-roading, with thick, knobby all-terrain tires and an extraordinary exterior roll cage.
  • The striking show car was sketched under the administration of Gorden Wagener, the chief design officer of the brand, and Abloh, who apparently was the founder of the design company Off-White and also headed the renowned brand Louis Vuitton's menswear division.

Although the long-hood proportions of the concept are evoked from the 2016 Mercedes-Maybach 6 concept, the brand claims the stretch of 20 feet in length of the Project Maybach is built from scratch. Further, the coupe is dedicatedly decked up for off-roading, with thick, knobby all-terrain tires and an extraordinary exterior roll cage burgeoning up and over the cabin. It even gets tough metal skid plates at the front and rear, body cladding, and exposed rivets over the wheel wells.

The Project Maybach features circular headlights, a chrome vertical grille, and a glowing full-width light bar on the front. With four auxiliary lights adorn a bull bar attached to the bumper and four more lights extending from the roof rack, the car indeed is a stunning thing to look at.

In addition, perfect circular taillights mimicking the headlights and the two-tone appearance hiding the solar cells are also installed to boost the  Maybach's range under the hood.

Besides these, it is still unclear whether the Project previews a potential production vehicle or not, but the brand did say, "the concept embodies the feasibilities of future design."

The Project Maybach was displayed at the Rubell Museum in Miami in memory of Abloh to respect the genuine union of design talent.
