Next-gen Toyota Vios is likely to make debut in 2022

While we’ve already been introduced to the current (third) generation of the Toyota Vios, back in 2013, the car has been coming up with updates, every now and then. However, following the revamped version of the car in 2018, the automaker is finally ready to deliver its next-generation Vios. 

Earlier this year, the news was that there’s a full model change (FMC) Vios, planned to hit the markets by August 2022. As per AutoIndustriya recent report, it will arrive in Q3 2022. Interestingly, the Philippine publisher also suggests that the automaker will be using an internal code D92A, marking a shift from the “XP” code that was used in the earlier generations. 

Given that the Vios is locally engineered in the Philippine market, buyers from the country can expect the upcoming Vios to highlight numerous upgrades with the TNGA/DNGA platform, using high-strength steel to develop the framework of the vehicle. 

Talking of the platform, it also bears a resemblance to the code of the vehicle. Further, the platform used in engineering the upcoming car will also mark a new generation model. It resembles that the car will carry heavy significance with the TNGA-style improvements. We can expect the car to highlight aerodynamic change, besides highlighting features like lighter weight, better driveability, among others. 

While the information on the powertrain of the vehicle is very little, the buzz around the industry is that the automaker will be installing a 1.5L hybrid drive, acquired from the Toyota Prius c/Aqua. This way, the automaker will be following the strategy made for the Corolla Altis and Corolla Cross. 

While Toyota has not yet given any clear indicator on the upcoming Vios, the launch is expected to happen very soon.
