Nissan drops down curtains at the production of X-Trail, Sylphy, and Teana in Thailand
Nissan is trimming down its portfolio as it stops the production of X-Trail, Sylphy, and Teana models in Thailand. According to the Autoindustriya report, the brand has informed its dealers to dispose of these models’ documents, brochures, and marketing papers.
As per the instructions by the automaker, the dealers were also asked to dispose of their stocked models of the X-Trail crossover, Teana midsize saloon, and the Sylphy compact car as the following models will witness the end of production for the Thai market.
The reasons behind such drastic measures took by the brand lays behind sales. The Thai market has not been welcoming to these cars and is largely dominated by the pick-up trucks. Moreover, Nissan failed to provide the country with its latest Sylphy model that was in direct competition with the upgraded offerings like Toyota Corolla Altis, Honda Civic, and many other sedan models.
Considering this drastic decision by Nissan, its long term plans over the Thai market depict a streamlined product offering with a main focus on the smaller segments. The brand will be shifting its focus from the sedan game to passenger cars, compact-crossovers, and the budding EV segment.
Moreover, in the most recent news, Nissan has announced to fuel its Thai-built lineup with an alternate source (e-power), making Thailand the second country after Japan to ride on Nissan's innovative drive system.
Talking more about the future of e-power in Thailand, Ramesh Narasimhan, president of Nissan Thailand exclaimed, “Nissan's commitment is to change the way we all drive and live. As leaders in electrification, we decided to pledge to continue our timeline to bring this ground-breaking technology, e-POWER, to Thailand. This is because Nissan commits to Thailand and our employees, as the regional leader in driving the company's vision for the electrification of mobility. And as a key global production and export hub for Nissan”.
However, things are much different for Nissan Sylphy, X-Trial, and Teana in the Singapore market. The brand has definitely come a long way with its offerings, amongst which the Sylphy is a strong contender in the mid-sized sedan segment.
Lastly, to keep up with the competition, the Japanese manufacturer has recently revamped Sylphy for the Singapore market. Nissan has introduced a much sleeker and sporty Sylphy with re-styled elements throughout that is ranged between SGD 81,888 and SGD 90,888.
