Polestar announces Project 0, targets zero-emission car by 2030

As per the latest news around the auto market, Polestar is one of the first automakers to announce a completely carbon-neutral EV by 2030, termed project as ‘0’. While a majority of the manufacturers in the auto industry are devising their plans to reduce their carbon footprints across the globe, Polestar is one such company that claims to completely eliminate it.
Interestingly, this is not a government initiative or the result of any legislative mandate but, an aim that the automaker has set for itself. With a commitment to developing a proper carbon-neutral EV by 2030, the ways to secure such configuration are not yet clear or disclosed.
Yes, there are other automakers in the EV competition that plan to offset carbon emissions via taking a different approach to manufacturing, we can’t say the same when it comes to Polestar. The automaker’s take is very different from the others, it is set on a mission to completely eliminate carbon emission and not try to reduce it via different manufacturing processes or through other carbon-credit activities.
Talking of their latest announcement, “Offsetting is a cop-out,” said Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO. “By pushing ourselves to create a completely climate-neutral car, we are forced to reach beyond what is possible today. We will have to question everything, innovate and look to exponential technologies as we design towards zero.”
Further, adding to the CEO’s thought, Polestar’s head of sustainability, Fredrika Klarén commented: “We’re electric, so we don’t have to worry about combustion engines producing toxic emissions – but that doesn’t mean our job is done,” she also added. “We will now work to eradicate all emissions stemming from production. Now is a historic and exciting time for carmakers, an opportunity to seize the moment, do better and dare to build the dream of climate-neutral, circular and beautiful cars.”
Lastly, while the automaker seems to be making claims that are way beyond possible, the future is yet to decide its ‘zero-emission’ vision by 2030.
