Pakistan gets its own export-spec Proton Saga, R3 variant goes manual

Following Proton’s recently aggressive push to export its product overseas, the automaker has launched the Proton Saga in Pakistan. The launch of the Saga is followed by the introduction of the Proton X70 earlier this December.

The Saga on sale in Pakistan comes in a total of five variants that include the Saga AT and MT, the range-topper Saga Ace AT. In addition to its regular offerings, Al-Haj Automotive, the authorised distributor and assembler of Proton vehicles in Pakistan has also introduced the Saga R3 offering in the country. Interestingly, the R3 variant of the Saga is only confined to 100 units.

Another significant difference between the Malaysian variant and the Pakistani variant of the R3 is that it’s available with a five-speed manual configuration in Pakistan. On the other hand, the Malaysian spec is limited to a four-speed automatic.

In terms of the equipment offering, both the Saga AT and MT carry similar pieces of equipment as the Standard MT and AT variants in Malaysia. The highlights of the offering include 14-inch steel wheels covered by plastic covers, halogen headlamps, powered side mirrors with indicators, rear parking sensors, and remote trunk release.

Proton Saga features

Coming to the limited edition R3 variant, the car resonates with a more sporty stance, giving out a hue on its front grille. Picking up a style of yellow-tint with its black exterior, the car is covered with stickers on the front and rear windscreen, as well as its side mirror caps. Other significant touch-ups of the R3 include an R3 emblem present on its boot lid, 15-inch alloys covered in matte grey, and the number “82” present in the decals of the body.

Talking of the engine mill, the Saga R3 draws its power from a 1332-cc engine that is paired to the same body kit as the Premium variant.

Lastly, the Proton Saga starts at a price range of 1.975 Million PKR (SGD 17,408) for the Saga MT, going as high as PKR 2.425 Million (SGD 21,375) for the R3 automatic.
