Renault Austral teased, set to launch in 2022
People have been waiting too long for Renault to launch the successor of its favorite and prominent model, the Kadjar. Finally, the brand revealed the name of its latest C-segment SUV called Austral, which is expected to launch next year. Sources suggest that the name Austral has been registered since 2005, and it is derived from the Latin word "australis."
When further enquired about the name of the model naming strategy, the manager of the carmaker, Sylvia Dos Santos expressed that Austral is a word that resonates with numerous European languages making it ideal for the car to be sold in the region.
Unfortunately, the official details about this vehicle are not yet accessible by the sources. Still, many reports suggest that the Austral is based on the modular Common Module Family (CMF) platform. This platform is also known for being used by other alliance variants such as the Nissan X-Trail and Qashqai. Sources further indicate that the Austral will also feature a lot of electrification. The car will reportedly come with electrified powertrains, including the plug-in hybrid, mild-hybrid, and Renault's well-known E-Tech hybrid setup.
There is not much that we can learn about a car from a simple teaser; we do get a glance at the tailgate features of this car that comes with the latest logo of the brand. Further, the tail lamps are shaped like the alphabet C, very much resembling the tail lamps found in the latest Captur. However, we know that Austral will be larger than Kadjar as the latest SUV will have five seats and measure up to 4.51 meters.
We have further garnered some insights on the final design of the Austral from the spy shots taken of the test mule. Things are not very clear yet, but the headlamps seem to be slim LED lights along with a simple beltline and a body that is far less curvy than its predecessor.
Lastly, sources also suggest that the car's interior features a touchscreen set up along with a digital instrument cluster and other similar amenities.
