Second-gen Honda BR-V unveiled in Indonesia
Unveiled as the N7X Concept in May this year, the second-generation Honda BR-V has recently made its official debut in Indonesia. This leap to a new generation has seen great upgrades, including the design and features.
One of the biggest upgrades in the new-gen Honda BR-V is the addition of safety features. The Japanese automaker has now added six airbags as standard across the variants. The top-of-the-line Prestige variant also includes the Honda Sensing package, which includes multiple safety features like Honda LaneWatch, autonomous emergency brakes, adaptive cruise control, lane centering assist, lane-keeping assist, and front departure alert.
Moving to the electronics package inside the cabin, the dashboard and instrument console is new. There are two analog dials behind the steering wheel, along with a 4.2-inch color multi-information display. The infotainment system includes a 7-inch touchscreen display that has both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. All three rows now get charging sockets. The comfort quotient is taken higher with the addition of an armrest for the first two rows.
As for the design, the front fascia looks heavily revised. It is much more muscular now with a chunkier and longer bonnet. The chrome additions up front are now limited, though we can still see chrome slips added near the headlamps. The illumination upfront is done in LED, including the DRLs, fog lamps, and reflector headlamps (only the range-topping variant).
Further, there is a sharp shoulder line on the side profile, which stretches from the headlamps and touches the tail lights at the rear. The rear profile now looks boxy with sharp curves and bends. There are roof rails, a shark-fin antenna, and a rear spoiler, along with skid plates at both ends. The car rides on 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels.
The range of changes continues to the engine as well. The car is driven by a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder mill that churns out 121 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque. The engine now features dual overhead cams, which has resulted in a bump in power by one hp. Transmission options include a CVT and a 6-speed manual.
The new Honda BR-V is not up for sale yet and is expected to go live by January next year. The pricing for the car is expected to be around 260 million Indonesian rupiahs, which amounts to a little under 25,000 Singapore dollars.
