Skoda announces launch of Slavia in India by 2022
After running Skoda Rapid in the Indian market for almost 10 years, Skoda has finally announced its replacement -- a B-segment sedan, the Slavia. Equipped with a custom only-for-India MQB A0 IN platform, the new Skoda sedan is likely to grace the market in 2022. Let’s see what this new vehicle has to offer.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
How many variants of the Skoda Slavia will be on offer?
The Skoda Slavia will be available in three variants - Active, Ambition, and Style. When will the Skoda Slavia launch?
The Skoda Slavia will hit the Indian market next year. The Slavia is part of Skoda’s futuristic India 2.0 project and the upcoming sedan will be produced almost entirely in the country, specifically in their Pune plant. There will be three available variants for this sedan - the Slavia Active, Slavia Ambition, and the Slavia Style. All three will come in 5 striking color options. They will have different wheel types - 15-inch steelies, 16-inch alloys, or 16-inch two-tone alloys.
Regarding the design aspect, the Slavia will be loosely based on Skoda’s African sedan, the Virtus, which again was based on Scala. The new Slavia will show up with a smart hexagonal grille bordered with angular LED or halogen headlamps. It will also receive stylish LED L-shaped daytime running lights along with C-shaped fog lamps.
The interior too is as stylish and elegant as the exterior. Inspired from the Octavia, the Slavia will come with an infotainment touchscreen and a two-spoke steering wheel. The central console will remain at the gear level along with other vehicle controls.
We can assume that the Slavia will either inherit the Rapid’s turbocharged 1.0 L TSI engine with 114 hp and 175 Nm or will sport a slightly more powerful turbo TSI 1.5L four-pot engine with 148 hp and 250 Nm.
The Slavia will receive some interesting features like a touch-control Climatronic system, MySkoda Connect telematics, an electric sliding sunroof, and much more. The safety stats look great too with TPMS, EDS, ESC, reverse camera, Isofix child seat anchors, and much more.
The Slavia will surely be a worthy opponent for similar B-segment sedans like Honda City and VW Vento in the Indian market. However, prices for the upcoming model are yet to be revealed. Stay tuned for more updates!
