The #1, an electric SUV by smart, has been officially launched in China. Set to be offered in two trims - Pro+ and Premium - the #1 is the first product from the stable of the joint venture that involves Geely and Mercedes-Benz.

The smart #1 will take only 30 minutes to charge when using a 150 kW DC fast charger.Powering the smart #1 is an electric motor that is capable of producing 272PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 343 Nm. The rear-wheel-driven SUV can sprint from 0-100kmph in 6.7 seconds before topping out at 180kmph. The electric motor on the smart #1 gets its juice from a lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide (NMC) battery, which has a capacity of 66kWh. The Pro+ and the Premium trims offer a single-charge range of 535km and 560km, respectively.
The Premium offers a longer range because of its battery featuring silicon carbide (SiC) technology. A 7.2kW charger can fill the #1’s battery from 10-80% state of charge in under 7.5 hours. A 150kW DC charger can achieve the same feat in a mere 30 minutes. Moreover, a Brabus-branded version of the #1, which will also flaunt a dual-motor setup, will further extend the electric SUV’s lineup.
Speaking of the equipment onboard on the two trims, we have 18/19-inch alloy wheels LED headlamps, LED DRLs, LED taillights, a 9.2/10-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, dual-zone climate control with an N95 cabin filter, powered front seats, and a 13-speaker Beats sound system, among others. The Premium trim also gets the smart Pilot suite of Level 2 safety and driver assistance systems.
On the safety front, features like emergency lane keep assist, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, lane control assist, highway assist, autonomous emergency braking, automatic lane change assist, traffic jam assist, front and rear collision mitigation, adaptive cruise control, front and rear cross-traffic alert, automatic parking assist, parking emergency brake, and blind-spot detection make a hefty safety package.
In China, the Pro+ carries a price tag of 190,000 yuan, while the Premium trim is priced at 230,000 yuan. Interested individuals can book one for themselves for a booking charge of 500 yuan. It is important to note that these are pre-sale prices, with the final pricing to be announced at a later stage.
