Tata rolls out Curvv concept in India; EV model to precede ICE variants

Tata has unwrapped the Curvv concept in India. Based on the new Gen 2 architecture, the coupe-style Tata Curvv Concept flaunts the automaker’s signature design philosophy. Standing around 4.3-metre long, the SUV is a touch longer than the Indian carmaker’s top-selling SUV in the local market. Also, the Curvv flaunts a wheelbase 50mm longer than that of the Nexon.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What are the key features of the Tata Curvv EV concept?

Tata’s new EV concept, the Curvv, benefits from a new Gen2 platform and a “Less-Is-More” design philosophy. The electric SUV is likely to offer a certifiable range somewhere between 400 and 500 km.
  • The longer wheelbase will not only improve the space inside the SUV but also help Tata fit a bigger battery pack that should claim a single-charge range of around 500km. Once launched, the Curvv EV will rival the likes of the MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona Electric in the Indian market.

    Tata Curvv details

“The CURVV concept from Tata Motors introduces a dynamic and modern SUV typology. Merging the toughness and durability of an SUV with an elegant and sporty silhouette of a Coupe, the CURVV has found the perfect balance between elegance, performance and practicality,” says Tata.

Speaking of the design language, the Tata Curvv Concept is adorned by a chiselled front end, which includes sleek DRLs sitting atop a split headlamp setup that we have already seen on other Tata offerings. Moreover, the Curvv continues to feature Tata’s IMPACT 2.0 design language. On the sides, there are no prominent shoulder lines, while the rear end comes equipped with a full-width taillamp setup.

The inside of the Tata Curvv follows a minimalistic approach. There is a two-spoke steering wheel and two standalone screens for the instrument cluster and the infotainment system. The production version, however, is expected to look quite different from the concept. The Tata Curvv will be first launched as an EV, with the ICE-powered versions slated to hit the roads later.

“With a fantastic year gone by, it gives me immense pleasure to announce a flying start to the new year, with a brand new ‘promise’, a brand new ‘thought’ and a brand new ‘design’ – all put together in this magnificent Electric SUV Concept – CURVV. Our focus here has been to enable customers with a product option that is the perfect amalgamation of modern functionality and design. With a robust SUV DNA at its core and a plethora of new-age materials, features and interfaces, we are confident that this Coupe Concept will redefine mainstream SUV design. Furthermore, with the concept CURVV, we now enter the Generation 2 EV architecture which will further enhance the adoption of EVs in India by overcoming the current barriers. With this new architecture, we will strengthen the key pillars of Range, Performance and Technology, while retaining Safety and Reliability as hygiene offerings,” said Shailesh Chandra – Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd.
