Tesla’s U-shaped steering wheel is legal in the UK, confirms DFT

Tesla has always been popular for releasing vehicles that have something stunning to blow the mind of any car driver. It has always been famous for surprising people with some incredible features. Now, the automaker has come up with a new steering wheel, which is not any normal one rather it has been given an incarnation of a U-shaped yoke.

There were so many comments even by the most open-minded commuter who was surprised to see that a design as such can be legal somewhere. The National Highway Traffic Safety administration clearly stated that the NHTSA cannot determine if the steering wheel can meet the safety standard of federal motor vehicles.

Tesla won't get any form of relaxation given its new feature that has been incorporated on the Model S and X of Tesla Arcade that is in a built gaming console. The system is high power and the Microsoft X-Box Series is capable of running most of the games that have been released recently. The reason why they can't relax is this whole new feature that might not be approved by the Department for Transport (DFT).

The credentials that they are offering are impressive and too much to be approved but the steering wheel already received a green signal from the DFT. According to the law, everything is considered safe unless the design of the car would result in any kind of casualties. So, as long as the U-Shaped yoke is safe to drive and won't come under the bad eyes of the UK regulators, it is good to go.

According to the Road Vehicles regulations, screens inside the car can be used for any other purpose unless it doesn't interrupt the driving of the driver. So playing a game on that screen will be not abiding by the regulations as a game will be displayed on the screen while driving and that is a distraction. Gaming is legal for the rear passengers even when the car is in motion so it's hard to determine whether this feature will be approved or not.

This was a dream of Elon Musk to have a driverless car and the addition of gaming consoles and other entertainment devices is the next step of designing any vehicle. But as a matter of fact, any car designer can not put the safety features of the car at risk by including these amenities.
