2022 Toyota Prius c (Aqua) revealed, gets revised styling with added features

Toyota has emerged in the headlines yet again! This time, the automaker introduces the world to its next-generation Prius c hatchback, otherwise known as the Aqua in Japan. It’s been over a decade since Toyota has expanded its Prius hybrid lineup by introducing the compact variant of the Prius. While the car was long due for either an upgrade or being pulled back, the automaker has finally decided to reveal its move.

While the Prius c hatchback was pulled from sale in 2020 due to slow sales, the Japanese carmaker has finally revealed its take on the second-generation model, advertised as “a compact car for the next ten years.”

This new generation of the Prius c underpins Toyota’s latest TNGA-B platform, debuting many world-firsts for the brand.

Riding on the same 'TNGA-B' architecture as the Yaris, the new car represents an upgrade in terms of its new design! However, avid car enthusiasts will notice that the automaker had put minimal efforts in re-defining its exteriors as the car resonates with similar overall styling, shape, and dimensions remain very similar.

Interestingly, the car has been modified to improve the wheelbase by 50 mm, standing at 2,600 mm now. Toyota confirmed the increase in overall wheelbase, improving the interior space inside the car, particularly the boot space and rear legroom.

Talking of the car's powertrain, the hatchback is powered by a fuel-efficient hybrid powertrain that is completely revised for the new Prius c. Powering the vehicle is an Atkinson-cycle version of the latest 1.5L Dynamic Force engine.

Inside, the car debuts a new 10.5-inch multimedia touchscreen, introducing the first of its kind by a compact-sized Toyota. Other features include self-parking mode, a new digital dash cluster, and a residential power outlet.

Lastly, with its arrival in Japan earlier this week, we expect the automaker to introduce this model to other parts of the world soon.
