Toyota’s new Land Cruiser 300 comes with a clause
The Japanese buyers of the new Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series will have to comply with a special rule. Breaking which, “may lead to major problems that threaten global security."
The Toyota Land Cruiser series is a lineup that needs no introduction across the world. While the offerings are being retired from the US market due to dwindling sales, the car continues to enjoy record-breaking sales. With over 20,000 pre-orders ready in Japan, Toyota's new Land Cruiser 300 is one of the latest offerings in the lineup.
However, a twist in the tale is the clause that the buyers need to make before the purchase of the car. As per reports from the Japanese site Creative311, the SUVs’ buyers there will have to confirm that they won’t be reselling their newly-purchased vehicles to other parties, for over a year.
While the new effort by the brand might look like an attempt to prevent the usual re-selling with inflated prices that is generally sought-after new models. The automaker states that the reason behind the new rule concerns "major threats to global security." The newly formed rule is in a bid to stop them from falling into the hands of terrorist groups.
Well known for its durability in tough weather conditions, a 2015 report by Automotive News confirmed that the vehicle was majorly acquired by militant groups.
In response to the investigation from 2015, Toyota USA stated: “Toyota has a strict policy to not sell vehicles to potential purchasers who may use or modify them for paramilitary or terrorist activities, and we have procedures and contractual commitments in place to prevent our products from being diverted for unauthorized military use.”
Talking a bit about the technical specs of the new Toyota Land Cruiser 300, the car has been introduced with three engine options; two petrol units and one diesel.
Lastly, given its latest move, we hope that Toyota is able to control the threat of militant groups at a global level.
