We get a sneak peek at the W206 Mercedes-AMG C53

Mercedes-Benz has teased a high-performance AMG version of its compact sedan. The teaser comes just after one year of the debut of the fifth-generation W206 Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How fast is the 2023 Mercedes-AMG C43?

The 2023 Mercedes-AMG C43 completes the century sprint in 4.6 seconds and achieves a top speed of 265 kmph.
  • How much power does the 2023 Mercedes-AMG C43 make?

The all-new 2023 Mercedes-AMG C43 is powered by a 2.0-litre, four-pot, turbocharged mill with a 48V mild-hybrid system. This setup delivers a maximum power output of 402 hp and a peak torque of 500 Nm.
  • However, for now, we only have a short teaser video to decipher information from, as no other details have been offered by the German auto giant. With a Panamericana grille typical of other Mercedes-AMG models, and a sportier bumper similar to that offered with the AMG Line package for the regular C-Class, the vehicle shown is typical of what Mercedes-AMG has to offer.

In a screen capture of the video, we notice that the distinctive intakes at the corners of the bumper appear to be mostly closed off, suggesting this is the successor to the W205 C43 4Matic, which will reportedly be called the C53 4Matic. With the larger, more powerful W205 C63, the intakes are opened to optimise cooling to the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, but they are closed on the smaller, 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 of the outgoing C43.

    Mercedes-AMG C53 details

Spies have spotted the new C53 before, and it's expected to get a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, most likely the M139 2.0-litre unit used in the latest A45. On the A45S, the M139 churns out a maximum power of 421PS, along with a peak torque of 500Nm. The 43’s V6, on the other hand, is capable of producing 367PS and 520Nm.

The newest iteration of the C63 is set to come housing a four-pot motor that will send the power generated to the rear wheels. The German automobile will also be equipped with hybrid technology and an electric exhaust-gas turbocharger. The total power output is expected to be rated at 653PS, which is way more than the 510PS of the outgoing C63 S. The SL43, which was revealed earlier this month, gets a similar powertrain, albeit the electric motor at the rear axle. The four-cylinder mill serves the SL43 381PS and 480Nm.

With Mercedes-Benz saying “more coming soon”, we await more details concerning the German automobile.
