Wuling Motors to launch two EVs in 2022

The new year will bring a new ray of hope for the electric vehicle market in Indonesia as PT SAIC General Motors Wuling Motor is set to bring new EV models in the market based on their promising Global Small Electric Vehicle platform.

These two models, the Baojun KiWi EV and the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV were revealed at this year’s GIIAS as a collaboration project by three leading carmakers, the Liuzhou Wuling Motors, General Motors, and SAIC Motor. Here is what has been revealed about the upcoming launch.

While it has not been specified whether these two models are the ones to hit the market, based on the GIIAS stage appearance, we can assume it will be these two EVs.

Wuling Hongguang Mini EV

The Baojun KiWi EV and the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV will both be produced in Wuling Motors’s assembly factory in Cikarang in West Java and like its predecessors will also garner a good market after its launch.

Both EVs are set to be mini vehicles with the four-seater KiWi being just 1,595 mm tall, 1,655 mm wide, and 2,894 mm long, and having a 2,020 mm wheelbase. The Hongguang is slightly taller and longer with 1,621 height, 1,493 mm width, 2,917 mm length, and a 1,940 mm wheelbase.

The KiWi is rumored to feature a lithium-ion phosphate 31.9-kWh battery with a power output of 54 hp and a maximum torque of 150 Nm. On the other hand, the Hongguang will feature either a lithium-ion 13.9-kWh or a 9.3-kWh battery with a power output of 27 hp and a maximum torque of 85 Nm.

The KiWi might have a top speed of 105 kmph with AC and DC charging and will have a 305 km range with a single charge. The slightly less powerful Hongguang will have a top speed of 100 kmph and a power range of 120-170 km with a single charge.

Nothing more has been revealed about the upcoming models. So keep an eye on this space for more updates about the EVs launch in the Indonesian market!
