Hyundai teased 2022 Creta a month head of its global debut
Just a month ahead of its global debut at the 2021 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), Hyundai has officially teased the 2022 Creta. After surprising the market with the spy shots, PT Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID) confirmed the midsize SUV arrival in the country, as the first locally assembled SUV.
The company asserts that the assembling will occur in the new plant operated by PT Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (HMMI), located in the Bekasi Regency of Indonesia's West Java Province. However, it's a fact that the subsidiaries of Hyundai Motor Company own both the units, HMID and HMMI.
The previous version of Creta was revealed back in 2019 in China and was afterwards put to sale in India, Russia, Brazil, and the Mexican market. Despite that, the brand never launched the SUV in Indonesia. But this time, the facelifted version, which gets more notable features and enticing external changes, is all set to come home.
As part of the update, the 2022 Creta borrows its design from the fourth generation Tucson which is currently on sale in the international market. The upcoming midsize SUV features - Tucson inspired honeycomb mesh pattern, LED DRLs, and many other facets.
Although the spied shots and the sneak peek given by the brand reveal quite a lot about its exterior changes made, there are no such particular details of interior makeup to share. Meanwhile, considering Creta's laden features, added features and high tech on board equipment could be expected.
With no tweak on the general dashboard layout, things worth highlighting are its 3D patterned speaker grilles, vertical air vents set at the corners, and its eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system, adding the oomph effect.
Since details aren't released regarding the powertrain, concerning the previous version Creta offered in India, the facelifted one might have Smartstream 1.5 liter, four-cylinder engine paired with a six-speed manual transmission or Hyundai's Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT).
The version sold in India is also offered with a Kappa 1.4 liter turbocharged four-cylinder, which gets a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. While the versions sold in other markets are powered by:
- A Kappa II 1.0 liter turbocharged three-cylinder (petrol)
- A Nu 2.0 liter four-cylinder
- A Gamma 1.6 liter four-cylinder
- A Smartstream 2.0 liter four-cylinder
