Japan-bound 2022 Mazda CX-60 gets powertrains aplenty

Specifications of the Japan-bound 2022 Mazda CX-60 are out. Having made its international debut last month, the CX-60 for the Japanese market will come with as many as four different engine options to choose from.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Is the CX-60 a premium car?

The Japanese automaker’s latest CX-60 is a range-topping SUV with several top-class comforting features.
  • When will the new CX-60 arrive in Singapore?

No official word has been shared by thecompany yet, however, we are not expecting its arrival anytime soon.
  • Standing 4,740mm long, 1,890mm wide, and 1,685mm tall, the CX-60 features a long wheelbase of 2,870mm. However, even with such a long wheelbase, the SUV based on the Skyactiv Multi-Solution Scalable Architecture only gets two rows as its engine, which sends the power to the rear wheels, sits longitudinally under the hood.

As we mentioned earlier, the 2022 Mazda CX-60 for the Japanese masses will come with four different engine options. The first of the lot is a plug-in hybrid setup that includes a Skyactiv-G 2.5-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine, an electric motor, a lithium-ion battery, and i-Activ all-wheel drive. This powertrain generates a maximum power of 323PS at 6,000rpm and 500Nm of peak torque at 4,000rpm.

Moving on, we then have the same Skyactiv-G 2.5 motor, albeit without the plug-in hybrid tech. This setup churns out 188PS of maximum power at 6,000rpm and a peak torque of 250Nm at 3,000rpm. Then there are the two diesel-fed mills. First up is the Skyactiv-D 3.3-litre straight-six turbodiesel that pushes out a maximum power of 231PS from 4,000 to 4,200rpm and 500Nm of peak torque from 1,500 to 3,000rpm. The second diesel-powered engine is a mild-hybrid version of the same Skyactiv-D 3.3 motor. Called e-Skyactiv D, this setup is bolstered by a 48-volt electrical system to make 254PS of maximum power at 3,750 rpm and a peak torque of 550Nm from 1,500 to 2,400rpm.

All of these four powertrain options will come mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Whether or not Mazda will offer AWD with any of these powertrains remains unknown for now. The Japan-bound CX-60 will hit the roads between September and November later this year. As for the price tag that the refreshed SUV will carry, Mazda is yet to spill any beans regarding the same.
