Mazda 3 Sedan

It is not only the exterior of the Mazda 3 Sedan which is designed to woo you completely, as even the cabin design is very outstanding and looks classy and elegant. Here too, Mazda has kept the overall layout minimalist, with the use of high-quality materials and impeccable fit and finish levels taking the rich feel of the cabin even higher.

The three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel and instrument console behind it comprising of three round dials with part digital displays make the driver’s cockpit look simple yet to the modern tastes. The layered theme for the dashboard looks nice, with the lower layer of the dashboard finished in soft-touch leather, and in the center between these two layers, sits a nicely tucked-in trapezoidal sleek looking infotainment system.

The volume controls, buttons for automatic climate control and AC vents are all integrated below the lower layer of the dashboard across its width, which enhances the width of the car.

While all the car manufacturers are focusing very much on the aspect of design, Mazda has to be praised for the extra commendable efforts it is taking for all of its cars in this direction. And the Mazda 3 Sedan is one perfect example of it – the design is breathtaking, with skilful use of curves and contours giving it a beautiful and timeless appeal.

The sleek front end of the Mazda 3 Sedan comprises an edgy front grille giving it a wide appeal to the fascia. The wing-like sleek headlamps incorporate LED projectors, with a blackened extension below it which merges with the edges of the grille. The chin spoiler at the bottom of the front bumper adds some sportiness to the front.

The side profile of the Mazda 3 Sedan looks smooth, and despite lack of any prominent character lines, looks elegant. The curvy silhouette with rounded roofline and smooth and curvy shoulder lines give it the oomph it is praised for. To accentuate its premium appeal, Mazda has given chrome finish to the window surrounds. However, we do wish to see new age diamond cut alloy wheels here, as the grey alloy wheels it comes fitted with look a bit dated and don’t go well with the overall design.

At the rear, Mazda has resorted to minimalism with a clean boot lid design and bird’s eye-shaped LED tail lamps with dual round units within them on either side. The rounded boot lid edge and chrome-tipped exhaust adds some more panache to the design.

With Macpherson struts at the front and torsion beam axle at the rear, the overall suspension setup of the Mazda 3 Sedan doesn’t feel too supreme in technology, but is nicely balanced for both spirited driving appeal and comfortable and cushy back seat experience.

The Mazda 3 Sedan shares its 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine with its hatchback counterpart, which is coupled to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The engine develops a maximum power output of 120 PS and a peak torque output of 153 Nm.

The Mazda 3 Sedan, just like all the other Mazda offerings, has the segment-best safety features list, which comprises of the front, side, curtain and knee airbags, ABS with EBD, dynamic stability control, traction control, high beam control, front and rear cross-traffic alerts, blind-spot monitoring, 360-degree camera, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, smart brake support, cruising and traffic support, radar cruise control, distance, and speed alert, driver attention assist and front and rear parking sensors.

With an incredibly beautiful design on the outside as well as outside, fantastic suspension setup, and great fit and finish levels, the Mazda 3 Sedan emerges out as a perfectly engineered sedan that gives a premium appeal at not so out-of-the-reach price band.
