Lexus RZ 450e in the spotlight; might be the EV concept we need
Amidst the outbreak of Lexus and Toyota's upcoming EV concepts, we finally got a complete glimpse of the undisguised exterior of Lexus RZ 450e. The car will be a vital part of the brand's significant forthcoming push into the electric segment.
The RZ 450e takes a fresh take on the Lexus spindle grille in front. Instead of being completely open, there is a channel in the lower compartment and vertical voids on both sides. There are honed-edged headlights on both sides as well. The hood is diligently rumpled, adding to the nose's angular glimpse.
The top is extensively arched and harbors a floating layout. The charging port is positioned right at the center of the fender and the door, while the front-wheel wells have cladding around them.
The tail has a duo of tiny spoilers positioned on each side of the roof. The back glass is vertically flexed, and there are full-width tail lights attached to the hatch. In contrast, the curved outlets on the bumper stimulate the inlets in the front junctions.
The RZ 450e partakes its details with the Subaru Solterra and Toyota bZ4X. While the footprint emerges to be identical, the Lexus has distinct styling similar to that of a sharper nose.
As for the powertrain, it is still a mystery in the case of the RZ 450e. At the same time, both Solterra and bZ4X are functional, with a total of 215 horsepower from an e-motor powering each axle. While Solterra can go an estimated 220 miles (354 kilometers) with its 71.4-kilowatt-hour battery, there isn't any specific range estimate for Toyota's all-wheel-drive bZ4X.
Besides all this info, there are still no specific images of the RZ 450e's interior. The Subaru and Toyota models on this platform share the identical layout for the hub stack. They have an extensive infotainment screen with a distinct digital display for the HVAC system positioned right below it. The console includes a rotary dial and switches for directing multiple drivetrain operations.
Considering its premium positioning, it can be expected that the anticipated Lexus RZ 450e, set to debut in 2022, will have a distinct interior with superior textiles work and high-quality tech on board.
