Mugen previews accessories for the new Honda Civic Hatchback

When it comes to aftermarket parts for some of the greatest Honda cars,  Mugen isn’t a name that needs any introduction. Formed in 1973 by the son of Soichiro Honda, founder of the Honda Motor Company, Mugen Motorsports has been one of the top providers of aftermarket upgrades for passenger and performance Hondas, for decades.

Considering the trend, the aftermarket provider has come up with a line of upgrades for the eleventh-generation of the brand's top-selling Civic. However, for the 2022 model, the company gave us only a sneak peek into what could be expected, via two photos.

Ahead of the entire catalog which will be live on September 3 (along with the car itself), the company has introduced us to the concept of “Dynamic & Sports”. With an attempt to make the car more sporty, Mugen opted to steer clear of body-matched aero additions and instead chose to use black add-ons.

The modifications that can be seen around the car include side skirts,  front splitter, tailgate spoiler, and rear spats, all finished in gloss black, adding a subtly sporty look to the overall appeal of the vehicle. Additionally, the firm will also be selling a set of 18-inch forged alloy wheels and mufflers with twin tailpipes.

Honda Civic wheels

Looking at the overall appeal that the car tends to provide us with, we can notice an undeniable similarity with Mugen's iconic MF10 wheel from yesteryear. However, the only difference is that the current design language from Mugen lacks the muscular cuts, sharp edges, and character traits that made them unique.

The aging aftermarket provider seems to have moved towards a more clean, subtle design language with a flat-faced design, rather than the aggressive, muscular look that it was once able to provide.

Lastly, no changes have been made to the mechanicals of the car. In Japan, the Civic will be offered in a single variant, a 1.5L VTEC Turbo engine, producing 182 hp of power and up to 240 Nm of torque.
