New Honda Civic Type R global debut set for next month

Honda recently announced that its much-awaited Civic Type R will soon be making a public appearance. The upcoming model will make its debut at the Tokyo Auto Salon in January. However, it will be making only a partial appearance with its skin being wrapped with a special camouflage. Till then, let’s see what this model might offer.

According to speculations, it is going to be the best-performing Civic variant by the company. The automaker has not revealed any details regarding the powertrain of the upcoming model but we think it might come with a standard 6-speed manual.

The Honda Civic Type R might also inherit an upgraded version of the good old 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-charged K20C1 engine. The K20C1 engine currently provides a power output of 320 PS and a maximum torque of 400 Nm. These numbers will go a little higher with the rumored upgrade and the power output might be somewhere around 400 PS. The vehicle will also receive all-wheel drive for the best driving experience. 

From what we hear, the new model will be slightly more sophisticated than its wilder siblings like the FK8 R. The Civic will receive special side skirts and bumpers, the traditional rear wing, and will also sport an impressive triple-pipe exhaust system. It is also rumored to come with a lower ride height, Brembo brakes, Michelin Pilot Sport Tyres, and new wheels. 

The new Civic Type R’s production might take place in North America at Honda’s Greensburg, Indiana plant. This is also where the beloved Honda Civic FL is being produced. This shift in the production house is due to Honda shutting down its UK Swindon factory.
