Peugeot to launch e-308 EV hatchback in 2023
Linda Jackson, Peugeot’s CEO had promised us a fully electric version of the much-loved Peugeot 308, and looks like she has kept her promise! According to Autocar, Peugeot will finally launch the much-awaited e-308 EV in 2023.
We hear that the new version will be more efficient, more powerful, and will sport a better battery range than the e-208 EV! According to sources, the upcoming e-308 will be available in both estate and hatchback versions. Both will receive similar specifications.
The new e-308 might be equipped with a 400V battery with a 54kWh capacity. This is significantly more powerful than the previous e-2008 and e-208’s 50-kWh batteries. The e-308’s single motor might also have a 154 hp higher power output than the 134 hp output produced by the earlier vehicles. The upcoming version’s performance will surely outshine e-208’s 362 WLTP range and e-2008’s 345 km WLTP range.
Agnes Tesson-Fagot, Peugeot 308’s brand project manager, also told Autocar that the e-308’s battery would be the best in the market. With just 4-kWh more capacity, its NMC811 battery will provide much better efficiency at 12.4kWh/100km. The new vehicle might just provide an impressive 250-mile range, made possible due to e-308’s low weight.
The heat pump, onboard charger, and electric motor will be located under the bonnet, where we generally find the internal combustion engine. The luggage compartment capacity will remain the same while the battery will be placed under the floor.
Since the plug-in version of the Peugeot already captures about 20% of the 308’s sales, the French carmaker is hopeful that the electric version will show a similar sales response. The upcoming version will go into production by July 2023 and will soon be launched in the commercial market.
For now, this is all we know about the upcoming Peugeot e-308 EV, but we hope to hear more soon. Keep an eye out for more updates!
