2021 Volkswagen ID.4 electric SUV revealed

Volkswagen has recently introduced the world to its ID.4 SUV, following the success of its all-electric ID.3 Hatch. VW’s upcoming sub-compact model is teasing the existing EV market with the tag “for the millions, not millionaires.”

The exterior of the car showcases a decent but sporty appeal, with its streamlined body wrapped in blue. The chassis and body of the upcoming ID.4 are made of steel and yes, it might add to the total weight of the car.

Protecting the floor-mounted battery against any form of physical damage is an aluminum frame that might come sturdy and protective in case of accidents. The car also comes with a replaceable aluminum underbody panel that protects the battery against rough terrain or accidental hazard on road.

Moreover, the ID.4 adapts to Volkswagen's EV-specific MEB platform that makes the car stand at 4.58 meters in length, placing it between the regular Tiguan and its stretched seven-seater variant (Tiguan Allspace). It rides on wheel options that can be upscaled to up to 21-inches.

Powering the upcoming ID.4 is a single 201 bhp electric motor that drives its rear wheels, and is paired to a 77 kWh battery pack that provides the car an all-electrical range of 323 miles.

The powerful drivetrain of the car allows it to sprint to 100 km per hour from an ideal start in 8.5 seconds. As per the automaker, the powerful all-electric engine of the ID.4 can also tow a caravan or trailer weighing up to 1000 kg. Interestingly, the battery is also automatically disabled if the vehicle is involved in a serious accident.
