Volkswagen Touran

On the inside, the Volkswagen Touran has got the typical built to the last feel, with the all-black finish for the cabin exuding premium levels of quality and top-notch finish. The layout of the dashboard looks simple yet leaves an impression of being an elegantly laid cabin.

While the three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel looks simple and feels good to hold with its flat bottom design, the pod-like instrument console placed behind it looks a bit basic with its normal-looking dials and fonts. The tapered theme for the AC vents in the middle make the center console looks wide, below which there is a large 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system encased in a trapezoidal housing.

The panel flowing beside the center console towards the co-passenger side looks properly finished with a good mix of silver and dark faux wood trims, in and angular manner of flow. The lower portion of the center console has been given a waterfall-like theme, which houses the trapezoidal panel for automatic climate control buttons and the transmission lever.

The Volkswagen Touran is packed with premium features like three-zone automatic climate control, rear AC vents, plush leather upholstery, height-adjustable front seats with adjustable lumbar support, keyless entry with push-button start and many more. And while it is projected as a family car, the rearmost third row is best suited for small kids due to limited amount of knee room on offer.

The Volkswagen Touran shares its design philosophy of having a crisp design with neat lines with the rest of the modern generation Volkswagens. It sources a lot of design inspiration from the Golf hatchback, which is evident from the angular bits in its design.

At the front, the Volkswagen Touran has got a neat looking front fascia, comprising of a sleek front grille having three long horizontal chrome slats across its width. On both the ends of the grille, there are angular headlamps, which have tapered V-shaped inner edges and sports dual LED projectors and a thin strip of daytime running LED below them. The large C-shaped black colored bumper inserts, as well as large trapezoidal lower air dam with chrome slats in the middle of them, make the front bumper look aggressive.

The side profile of the Volkswagen Touran has got the typical MPV flair, with a boxy and angular stance, but the crisp looking creases emerging from the edge of the headlamp and flowing through the window shoulder line as well as one across the door panels do make it look sharp. The door-mounted rearview mirrors add a touch of modernity to the side profile, while the chrome surround for the entire window frame makes it look premium.

The Volkswagen Touran has got a simple rear end with a large trapezoidal windshield covering almost half of the rear profile. The hatch at the back gets wide and angular set of LED tail lamps with a slightly lower trapezoidal housing for the license plate.

The Volkswagen Touran is one of the plushest vehicles in the Volkswagen’s lineup when it comes to the ride quality on offer. The MPV has been fitted with a softly tuned suspension, which works finely in sync with the four driving modes on offer – Normal, Sport, Eco and Individual.

The Volkswagen Touran has been bestowed with a potent 1.4-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which has been shared with the Golf hatchback. Here, the engine has been married to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, which is the standard transmission option for this MPV. The engine produces a healthy power output of 150 PS, while the peak torque output of 250 Nm.

The Volkswagen Touran gets an extensive list of safety features for a compact MPV, like the front, side, curtain and knee airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, electronic stabilization programme with an anti-slip regulator, driver steering recommendation, electronic differential lock and engine drag torque control, tire pressure monitoring system and reverse parking sensors and camera.

For a compact vehicle which has a greater shift of focus on function over form, the Volkswagen Touran wears a neat and crisp design which is very likeable and gives it an impression of a sharp-looking vehicle. While space might not be too high on the inside, the Volkswagen Touran still manages to feel practical with its seven seating layout, good levels of equipment and tough build quality.
