Audi set to go all-electric from 2026

It’s official, Audi will stop producing diesel and petrol cars from 2033. Given that the automaker had already plunged into the world of electric with its e-Tron offering, Audi is all set to earn the tag of ‘only electric by 2026.

The news was confirmed by a German report, carrying quotes from CEO Markus Duesmann, giving us a subtle image of what’s coming next!

"Audi is ready to make its decisive and powerful move into the electric age," CEO Markus Duesmann said in a statement. Taking such a move, the automaker has announced that it will initiate production of its final newly-developed combustion engine models in just four years.

The move that is more of a part of Audi’s strategic realignment will mark the automaker's transition into the future of e-mobility. The final step of this move is for Audi to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 at the latest.

Duesmann, who was himself present at the 2021 Greentech Festival in Berlin, made this important announcement. “Through our innovative strength, we offer individuals sustainable and carbon-neutral mobility options,” he also added. “I don’t believe in the success of bans. I believe in the success of technology and innovation.”

The CEO also added, "Audi's last internal combustion engine will be the best we've ever built".

To support the move, Ingolstadt will also put a stop to the production of its internal combustion engines. However, strong demand for the cars in China could witness Audi's local partners there to continue manufacturing combustion engine cars beyond 2033, as said the CEO.

Lastly, Audi’s parent company, Volkswagen AG also announced that the automaker is ready to spend 46 billion euros ($61 billion) over the next five years to continue its dominance in the global electric car market.
