BMW i4 electric sedan teaser released, global debut soon
BMW is already known for its development in the electric automobile segment. The all-new iX and the i3 are classic examples of the same. The German automaker is now set to expand this lineup further by revealing the i4 EV globally on March 17. The unveiling is scheduled to take place during the BMW Group annual conference.
Around a year ago, BMW got us familiar with the i4 in the form of the concept model. The production-ready model looks closely identical to what we have seen in the concept. Prior to this unveiling ceremony, we do get to see the electric car in teaser images, though that looks more like a silhouette than detailed one. The things shared on the clip reveal the unaltered cab back profile with other elements of the automaker, including the contemporary lighting design featuring the ‘light carpet’.
We can pretty much guess what to expect from this new model as last year some facts were disclosed before the pandemic lockdown. Back then, BMW announced that around 85% production of the car was done already. The new design will tend to incorporate the same signature BMW approach, something similar to the two-part kidney grille from the iX and a long front hood, just like any other ICE sedan from the automaker.
We also get to know quite a bit about the interior, thanks to the teased video. The cockpit looks stunning with the addition of a dual-screen curved display on the dashboard along with a glitzy touch controller. We know this from the revelation that came from the brand regarding the infotainment system earlier this week.
On the mechanism, the initial i4 will get an 80-kilowatt hour battery, which will have a drive-cycle of 373 miles, as per the European WLTP testing cycle. As for the mechanism, the car could feature at least more than 500 hp from a twin motor setup.
The top-of-the-line model will have an AWD drivetrain. Besides just that, it is even expected to deliver a range of over 482 km (300 miles). Despite being an all-electric car, it will have sporty numbers on the performance chart with a 0-100 kmph acceleration in just four seconds.
But since the world already has a very prominent and sporty all-electric sedan in the form of the Tesla Model 3, the upcoming BMW i4 will not be any short of the competition. Tesla already has its existence in the Singapore market, and thus it is obvious that the BMW i4 will make its entry here.
