One of the highest volume grossers for BMW across the world, the BMW X3 is the German car brand’s stalwart in the premium midsize luxury SUV segment. Currently, in its third generation version, the BMW X3 is positioned below the bigger X5 and two SAVs, the X2 and X4. For the Singapore car market, BMW has made the X3 available in just one trim level, the sDrive 20i xLine, which is powered by a petrol automatic powertrain.

BMW X3 Interior & Features
BMW has completely revamped the interior cabin of the X3, which now looks much more modern and very in-line with the rest of the cars from the range of BMW.
The three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel is the same as before, however, what is completely new this time around is the full TFT instrument console as well as sharper-looking center console shared with the 3-Series sedan. The center console consists of a standout trapezoidal touchscreen infotainment system as well as trapezoidal themed sleeker-looking AC vents and panel for the automatic climate control below them.
Packed with all the contemporary features one could think of in a premium BMW car, the BMW X3 never fails to make you feel like it is a compromise in luxury. Same goes for the space levels inside the car, with an ample amount of room for five passengers inside.
X3 Exterior
The overall exterior design of the BMW X3, in this third-generation iteration, is not something which can be termed as revolutionary when compared to the second generation model it replaced. However, compared to before, the BMW X3 now looks much smoother, sleeker and modern than ever.
The front profile of the BMW X3 now gets revised styling for the headlamps, which now have curved edges and their inner edges not fixed to the side edges of the grille. The double kidney grille with vertical chrome slats and chrome surroundings too has grown in size, but not big enough to make it look disproportionate. The fog lamp housings are large and are characterized by sleek silver accents in their middle. A sleek silver skid plate and slim body cladding at the bottom complete the look of the SUV at the front.
The BMW X3 now looks longer than before too, thanks to a smooth flowing design on the sideways, the credits of which go the smoother contours on the front bonnet and roofline. Like before, there is a sharp character crease flowing in the middle across the door panels. The rounded wheel arches are huge and are garnished with slim body cladding, which is present on the lower portion of the doors as well.
The rear profile of the BMW X3 too has been tweaked heavily as compared to before, with sleeker-looking tail lamps which now get revised LED inserts to make them look very interesting. They are wider from the outside, thus accentuating the width of the car when viewed from the rear.
BMW X3 Ride & Handling
The BMW X3 might be huge in size, but the body roll is well under control, thanks to adaptive driving dynamics setup and drive modes on offer. The suspension is on a stiffer side, which does make the overall driving dynamics quite on a sportier side, but does make the overall ride quality too on a firmer side.
X3 Engine & Fuel Consumption
The only powertrain combination BMW has employed for the X3 in the Singapore car market is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. This engine, in the BMW X3, makes total power and torque outputs of 183 PS and 290 Nm respectively. The engine returns a respectable fuel economy of 13.5 kmpl as well, however, the absence of a diesel powertrain from the lineup can be disappointing for some.
BMW X3 Braking & Safety
The BMW X3 has been equipped with top-class safety amenities, including front, side, curtain and knee airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, hill hold control, hill descent control, traction control and a range of driving assistance electronic aids.
X3 Verdict
Packed with a host of premium features and equally premium design in and out, the BMW X3 very well justifies its premium positioning. The performance from the petrol engine is powerful enough to keep all things on track, while the overall driving dynamics make it one of the most fun-to-drive SUVs out there.
