BMW M’s 50th anniversary may bring a limited-edition M4

The motorsport division of BMW, BMW M will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year in May. And from what we hear, it might celebrate the occasion by launching a limited edition M4. While no official comments have been made, here is what we know to date.

According to Bimmerpost, the upcoming M4 will be based on the CSL model with manual transmission and manual seats. However, several features will be scrapped off from the new model. It is supposed to be a “50 Jahre” Edition but will be lacking features like parking sensors and comfort access. While the exact model designation is still unknown, from what we hear, it will sport the forged wheels of the G81.

The upcoming M4 is rumored to be available in just one variant. This variant might come with a 3.0L engine and might deliver a power output similar to the CSL (540 hp). It might also provide a maximum torque of 550 Nm and will sport a 6-speed manual option for a memorable performance. 

From the sound of it, the upcoming model is going to be a leaner, more light-weight, yet sturdier version of the M4 CSL - made specially for those seeking manual transmission in their cars. While the M4 CSL saw a 1,000 units production, the upcoming G82 M4 will see less production. 

In other news, BMW is quite likely to start its XM production next year. This model is set to be BMW’s new flagship model - a standalone plug-in hybrid with the promise of a stellar performance. The new XM is likely to be powered by a powerful electric V8 engine that will offer an impressive range of 80 km with one full charge. It will also provide a power output of 750 hp and maximum torque of 1,000 Nm.
