BMW partners with AI for its new range of offerings

Given a long history of Art Cars, the German automaker BMW now rolled out a new masterpiece of art on its cars. At the event of commemorating the 50th anniversary of its Group Cultural Engagement, BMW announced its upcoming car project for the year. 

The automaker debuts three new cars at the 2021 Frieze New York art fair. The cars are more of the art pieces, marking the automaker’s 50th cultural anniversary. However, here’s a twist. Rather than being painted by any renowned artist, the three 8 Series Gran Coupés are a product of the company’s collaboration with Artificial Intelligence, making them products of BMW’s partnership with computers.

Titled “The Ultimate AI Masterpiece”, the cars are a product of AI and BMW, to create art. The project that was recently showcased, is the brainchild of Silverstein, Goodby, & Partners director of creative technology Nathan Shipley and art collector and ArtDrunk founder Gary Yeh. All the creator’s utilized Nvidia’s open-source StyleGAN AI software to bring these wonderful art pieces to life.

Exclaiming about their latest feat, one of the artsy minds, Shipley exclaimed his excitement on the latest collaboration by saying, “AI is an emerging medium of creative expression. It’s a fascinating space where art meets algorithm.” He further added. “Combining the historical works with the curated modern works and projecting the evolving images onto the 8 Series Gran Coupé serves a direct nod to BMW’s history of uniting automobiles, art, and technology.”

Further, Gary Yeh also had his own points to add to the latest achievements. He exclaimed, “During an unusually isolated time in history, we took the opportunity to curate and work with artists from around the world as a means to give viewers a true art experience digitally. It was particularly exciting to push the boundaries of art, see how technology may influence the art world in the years to come, and build on 50 years of cultural engagement at BMW.”

Lastly, these cars are a part of one of many collaborations by the brand across the globe.
